Volunteers quit AAP due to poor representation of Dalits, Minorities and Maharastrians.

Aap-LeadThe Aam Aadmi Party which was formed with an intention to eliminate corruption from the nation has lost its way. The party which had made an outstanding debut by winning 28 seats in Delhi has been losing its momentum due to the prevalence of infighting within the party. Many party workers have already bid adieu to the party as they were unhappy with the functioning of the party leadership. They were also not pleased with party for sidelining Maharastrians, Minorities and Dalits and not following its ideology. The Lok Pal Bill issue has been put on the backburner as the party has been focussing on garnering power at any cost. The party which was known for reaching out to the common man has suddenly started distancing itself from the masses. More than five hundred active volunteers resigned claiming irregularities in the conduct of the party proceedings and alleged dictatorship of state party head Mayank Gandhi.

Addressing a press conference its leaders Luqman Nadvi, Anil Yadav and Advocate Dawre said that they were forced to tender mass resignation because the fundamental principle of inner democracy in the party was being ignored.

RTI activist Saumya Bahadur said, “Dalits and minorities are poorly represented not only in Maharashtra but across the nation. The party merely pointed out the wrongdoings of the government but it was not in a position to provide a solution for the same. Prem Singh Pahadi the lone Dalit leaders name features in the national executive member list. He was keen to contest election from the Phulpur constituency but was denied a ticket.”

Mayank-Gandhi-LeadOn the other hand, Mayank Gandhi national Executive member of Aam Aadmi Party refuted the allegations as baseless. He said, “We believe in affirmative action for the disadvantaged section. AAP had fielded candidates belonging to backward castes even in non reserved seats during the last election. Please give examples about when and how minorities and Dalits were ignored. The disgruntled are merely making false accusations.”

“Afroze wanted to resign and he had brought many of his friends to attend the press conference. They alleged that we were anti-Muslim, Dalit. Muslims are looking at AAP as an alternative to congress. No committee member or office bearer has resigned. The resignation of 500 volunteers is just hype” added Gandhi.

Sandeep Sahane AAP party member said, “It was not necessary to hold a press conference as this matter could have been resolved internally. The issue faced by volunteers could have been addressed by holding discussions. Out of 200 people who had come forward to tender resignations there were many others who had come out of curiosity.”

Sukhdev Benbansi AAP party volunteer said, “The new committee consisting of 25 people in every zone will comprise five students from minority community and five seats will be reserved for women. No restriction is imposed on us and we are free to work for the betterment of the society. Since AAP is a newly formed party hence it will take some time to follow certain norms but we are not biased towards any caste.”

Prem Singh Pahadi, AAP National Executive member said, “I have been performing social work for the upliftment of Dalits for the past 50 years. I have been holding discussions pertaining to the problems faced by Dalits with officials. I am not quitting the party. Mayank Gandhi is one the best leader from AAP.”
