Ashwin’s all-round show at Antigua

Team India touched terrific form when they trounced a depleted West Indies side by an innings and 92 runs to kindle the memory of the 1971 series, when Ajit Wadekar’ side first won a series against West Indies at Port of Spain with a resounding win. Virat Kohli’s 200 and Ashwin’s hundred gave the bowlers enough runs to bowl at and they bowled to a plan, which was well supported by outstanding fielding. West Indian batting never looked at ease against Ashwin’s accurate bowling.  He made the batsmen dance to his tunes. But for a 95 runs stand for the ninth wicket, Team India would have won by more than 100 runs. In all, it was Ashwin show at Antigua. Anil Kumble achieved his first success as coach and Kohli made a mark in an overseas series. Ashwin claimed 5 wickets or more 17 times in test match cricket and he is the trump card bowler for Kohli. He is the only Indian all-rounder to accomplish the unique feat of scoring 100 runs and taking five wickets in an innings for the second time. Both Vinoo Mankad and Poly Umrigar achieved the feat once. Ashwin’s all round show Antigua helped him to retain the number one spot as an all rounder and he was adjudged Man of the match.
