A traffic police officer deployed at Bengaluru’s Trinity Circle on Saturday won hearts of the city and the netizens alike for deftly making way for an ambulance even as a convoy of the President of India was to pass through a busy junction.

How many times have we seen policemen and women being hauled up for not giving preferential treatment to a bureaucrat or politician and the incident being caught on camera.

Well, such problems don’t stop these lawmen from doing their duty, and one such example was of a Bengaluru traffic police officer, who stopped the President’s convoy so that an ambulance could pass through.

Traffic police sub-inspector M L Nijalingappa’s quick thinking and swift action was praised and rewarded by the city police as he saved a critical patient’s life.

“We could see that the pilot vehicle was just a few hundred metres away. We had to decide quickly. We let the ambulance through. And the VVIP convoy was not stopped either,” said Mr. Nijalingappa.

“We had just a fraction of time to make the decision. But we decided in time,” Mr. Rao added.

Abhei Goyal, Deputy Commissioner of Police -Traffic East Division, Bengaluru City, took to Twitter to praise officer ML Nijalingappa’s presence of mind. He has now been rewarded for deftly allowing the ambulance before the 1st citizen of India.

Even Praveen Sood IPS, the CP of Bengaluru city, hailed Nijalingappa for letting the ambulance pass over President’s convoy.
