BJP makes inroads into Latur Municipal Corporation which was known as the bastion of Congress. Lead Latur

The Bharatiya Janata Party continued its winning streak by scripting a thumping victory in the Latur and Chandrapur municipal corporations of Maharashtra. The party has now made inroads into the bastion of former Chief Minister late Vilasrao Deshmukh. The saffron party has scripted history by winning the Latur Municipal corporation for the first time in 65 years. BJP had won 41 seats out of 70 seats and has received a clear mandate. Thus Modi wave has not faded as BJP continues to achieve new milestones under his leadership. The BJP’s aim of Congress mukt Maharashtra is slowly turning into a reality after its impressive performance in the Lok Sabha, assembly and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. In the 70-member Latur corporation, it was a test of political clout for BJP leader and state minister Sambhajirao Nilangekar and the local Congress MLA Amit Deshmukh, the son of former chief minister late Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Latur was known as the bastion of Congress party but BJP has turned the tide in its favour by resolving the drought crisis faced by the district. BJP had taken an initiative to transport water wagons to the parched district which was worst affected by drought. Voters reciprocated by giving a clear majority for the party. Congress stalwarts Smitha Kanapure, Asgar Ali Patel, Laxmanak Kamble had to face defeat. On the other hand, BJP leaders Shailesh Swami, Suresh Pawar, Sheetal Malu, Ajay Kokate had emerged victorious. Thus BJP has opened its account in Latur. The party had achieved success due to outstanding campaigning, hardwork of party activists and effective leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state BJP president Raosaheb Danve,

On the other hand, Congress emerged victorious in Parbhani after wresting its control from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The poll may be local, but its ramifications are definitely pan-India due to its immense nature. Around 62 percent turnout was registered for polling in Chandrapur, Parbhani and Latur municipal corporations.

After winning the elections, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis congratulated “all katyakartas who worked hard for this victory!” “And @BJP4India ‘s epic winning spree continues…,” the CM tweeted.

“We will work harder and continue to work for every citizen with our mantra of good governance to serve the last man !,” he further said

Apart from Congress, this year’s election was also a major jolt for both the Shiv Sena as well as NCP. While the Sena failed to open its account, NCP has managed to secure only one seat in Latur.
