Conspiracy to tarnish PM Modi’s image?

There is lot of politics going on over conversions and reconversions. Every politician is creating his share of controversy and headlines by passing divisive statements. One of our immature state Congress leaders Nitesh Rane had expressed his disagreement over the issue of conversion but Nilesh Rane endorsed maximum conversions. Interestingly, it was not just a one-off statement by junior Rane, whose father Narayan Rane is one of the top Congress leaders in Maharashtra and brother Nitesh is a sitting Congress MLA. The Congress has distanced itself from Nilesh Rane’s remarks. While it is trying to corner the BJP on the issue of religious conversion, the Congress may find itself in an embarrassing situation over the same issue. Former Congress MP Nilesh Rane has said that India should convert as many people as possible to Hinduism in order to prevent incidents like the one in Sydney.

Anyway, conversion and reconversion are the biggest mockery in human civilisation. India should ban such thing and leave adoption of any philosophical or spiritual ideas on individuals. However, such move again will be deemed as communal. The problem is that, these organisations are still living in the past. Their ideologies and practices are still based on what happened 400 or 500 years ago. These organisations are not happy to just practice their own faith but want to convert everyone till a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ is established. Rane, like many other leaders, who shifted their political and ideological loyalties in the greed of power and politics, are slowly showing their roots. They are born out of Shiv Sena and they follow hardcore Hindutva ideology, secularism was out political compulsion of his father. Rane thinks, with incidents like the one that happened in Sydney is happening almost everywhere.he said that India should target on converting as many people to Hinduism. His reference was to the siege at a cafe in Sydney, Australia on Monday in which three people died.

The former MP’s remark comes at a time when the incident of alleged forced religious conversions in Uttar Pradesh has triggered countrywide revulsion. Amid demands that Prime Minister Narendra Modi make a statement over the issue, the opposition parties staged protests in Parliament, disrupting functioning of both the Houses.

An insight into Hinduism will shed light on its absolute endorsement for freedom of choice. Mythology and Puranas never held your hands to prevent you from what you wanted to do. If there were any fast rules, one would not have seen Buddha. It always guides you to choose your destiny and it allows you to tread your path. What an Islamic extremist is intended to do is no different from Ghar vaapsi event. Let us not be egoistic or driven by emotions. There is no reason to panic or no one should jeopardise the victory march of our youth by disturbing the tranquility. Everyone should realise that our defence forces consist of people from all faiths and we are not disintegrated only because of their neutral nature. Every religion needs a review which none of the vested interests will allow to happen.

Some Hindutva outfits facilitated a “conversion” of about 200 people, mostly Muslim slum dwellers, through a Hindu ritual. These groups have also claimed that a large number of such persons were expected to reconvert in several other districts of western Uttar Pradesh as well. Meanwhile, the rows over conversion continue to disrupt Parliament with opposition members demanding an explanation from Modi. Looking at all this uncontrollable mess, I believe that there is a vast right wing conspiracy against Modi in the BJP. These people, who are bringing up conversion, do not really care for conversion, but seem to be doing serious harm to the image of the BJP, and the administration of Modi. I truly wish that the PM comes down on these people and reins them in. They are shaking the confidence in the true secularist credentials of the government, and the irony is that they are not serious about their cause either. If they are indeed serious, they would do things in a manner in which publicity is not the sole focus. Also, there is no existing process wherein they would ease the transition of the so called re-converts into their new religion. Thus, these are nothing but rabble rousers who are clamouring for some quick publicity and their time in the media limelight even it means that it harms their own PM and the party. It’s high time; one must maintain the true secular fabric of India at all cost to stop people from spreading extremism.
