Prime Minister Narendra Modi hinted at a crackdown on benami properties, and it is one more initiative to arrest black money in this country. Launching a stinging attack on the opposition party over corruption Modi reiterated the stand of the government on demonetisation and the way opposition was driven by its attempts to mislead the people and create an atmosphere against raising a storm over benami assets.

The time has come to return to the poor what had been robbed of them in the past six decades. It is time to reclaim benami assets. Heaping scorn on the Congress over its decision to observe the first anniversary of demonetisation on November 8 as black day, he opined that it was actually “black money day for the opposition party. Benami funds parked in Indian and foreign banks if taken away the Indian economy will see light at the end of the tunnel and black money will come out in plenty with this new move.
