South Africa pacer Dale Steyn reached another milestone on Thursday when he took his 400th Test wicket during the first day of the second and final Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.

Steyn became the 13th bowler in the history of Test cricket to achieve the milestone after he dismissed Tamim Iqbal for 6.

The 32-year-old right-arm pacer also became the second South African bowler after Shaun Pollock to be part of the elite club of 400 Test wickets. Only 11 other bowlers, apart from the two South Africans, have achieved the feat in the history of the game.

In process Steyn also became the joint-second quickest man to take 400 wickets in Test cricket. Steyn achieved the feat in just 80 Tests, alongside New Zealand great Sir Richard Hadlee.

However he is the fastest to reach the landmark in terms of balls bowled so far.

Having made his Test debut against England in a home series in 2004, Steyn has been seen as one of the most destructive bowlers in the world. Earlier in the year, legendary West Indies fast bowling great Michael Holding also praised him saying that he is the only genuine pacer playing Test cricket currently.

“Well, there’s only one fast bowler right now – Dale Steyn. He is the only fast bowler in the world playing Test match cricket right now and that’s impressive. The rest of them are either injured, not playing on a regular basis or have retired,” he said.
