The family of expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh lodged a named FIR against Mayawati and some other BSP leaders for allegedly using foul language against them during their public protest.

Singh triggered a storm for comparing the Bahujan Samaj Party leader to a prostitute, with thousands of angry BSP workers thronging Lucknow to stage a protest on Thursday.

His wife Swati Singh has filed a police complaint against Mayawati, alleging that she and her 12-year-old daughter are being abused and threatened by the former chief minister’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

“They are calling me and my daughter, they are abusing her. My daughter is traumatized. They are dragging my daughter into this and no one is standing by us…She is a minor and she is being mentally harassed…she has stopped going to school,” Mrs. Singh, a professor at Lucknow University, said on Friday.

“Can a person punished multiple times for a single mistake…If something happens to my children, will Mayawati take responsibility for it?” she questioned.

Police are under pressure to arrest Singh, who is on the run. Rumours are rife that Singh might have fled to neighbouring Nepal or Bihar but his supporters say he might soon surrender in court.

“We have not been provided any security cover and we are living under fear,” she told reporters on Friday afternoon, hours later her mother-in-law filed an FIR against senior BSP leaders.

Swati said that a number of abuses were directed at her family by the protesters during the protest in Lucknow where BSP workers allegedly demanded that both her and her daughter be “presented” before them.

“I condemned the distasteful comment made by my husband against Mayawati but that does not give BSP leaders licence to make outrageous comment against me and my daughter. The BSP leaders have threatened to attack us,” she said.

Earlier in the day Tetra Devi met the Hazratganj Police and submitted the complaint that she, her daughter, daughter-in-law and grand daughter were abused by BSP men who allegedly raised derogatory slogans during the protest.

“There was an attempt to instigate violence and riot during the protest by highlighting differences on caste lines”, she alleged in the complaint, adding that slogans at the protest amounted to outraging the modesty of a woman.

The FIR has been registered under sections 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy), 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups), 504 (intentional insult with intent to breach peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act to insult modesty of woman) of the IPC, police said.

“We will now demand the arrest of BSP leaders who had crossed all limits in abusing and degrading women members of the family,” Dayashankar’s family said.

An FIR was filed against Dayashankar Singh two days ago on the basis of a complaint filed by Mevalal.
