The defeat of several prominent BJP leaders, including three-time Chief Minister Arjun Munda, in the Jharkhand elections has prompted the Delhi BJP to be careful while selecting big names as candidates for the forthcoming Delhi polls.

According to a top party leader, the Delhi unit has now decided to give a more serious thought before considering the names of big guns such as Jagdish Mukhi and Shyam Lal Garg for the Assembly polls.

The leader said if the party’s “big leaders” are defeated, it will be a setback to the BJP’s “Mission 60” set by national president Amit Shah.

Senior party leaders had a meeting and discussed this issue.

“Arjun Munda, who was perhaps front-runner for the CM’s post, was defeated. Munda, who is a three-time CM, had a stronghold in Jharkhand politics. But, Munda’s defeat has forced Delhi BJP to be very careful while distributing tickets to its senior leaders for the upcoming Assembly polls,” said a senior BJP leader.

He said that these senior leaders are Shyam Lal Garg, who was defeated by 7062 votes in last Assembly polls, Surendra Pal Ratawal who had lost polls from Karol Bagh and Shri Krishan Tyagi who was also defeated by AAP’s Sanjeev Jha from Burari.

“Apart from these leaders, party will also be cautious while giving ticket to its former leader Jagdish Mukhi. While giving ticket to these leaders, party would measure their popularity among the people in their constituencies,” he added.
