Four held for cheating senior citizen from Borivali

The MHB Police have arrested four call centre employees for cheating a Borivali resident on the pretext of offering insurance bonus of 31 lakh rupees. Police said the accused had stolen the data from the call centre where they were employed.

The two accused are Delhi residents while the remaining two hails from Nagpur. Accused had stolen the Reliance Insurance company’s customer data and they used to call customers asking them to provide their account number for transferring the Insurance bonus. After receiving account number the accused withdrew the money from the account.

According to the police officials, the accused from Nagpur called the 60 year old resident from Borivali. The complainant had purchased an insurance policy of Reliance through an agent.

Police said the accused called the complainant and informed him that the insurance firm had declared the bonus and he is entitled to receive the same. Later the accused also revealed the victim’s policy number, premium amount and the amount paid by him to convince him.

The accused asked the victim to provide his account number and details for sending the bonus amount. They accused asked the victim to maintain a minimum balance amount of 31 lakhs rupees in his account for security reasons. When the complainant deposited the amount in his account the money was withdrawn from Delhi and Nagpur by the accused.

The victim then filed a complaint with the police. Police traced the call centre employee from Delhi and arrested him. The accused were produced yesterday in Borivali court and remanded into police custody.
