It has become a fashion to distribute costly platters to invitees on marriage-related functions just to exhibit richness. Huge platters are gifted containing only and only imported items containing packs of soft drinks, chocolates and other food-items which are otherwise manufactured in India itself by large number of big and small manufacturers, that too with much superior quality than of imported ones and priced at a small fraction of price than that of the imported ones. Several imported items in the gift-platter were even those which are being manufactured in India by those multinational companies only.
An imported pack of potato-chips of much inferior quality than of Indian made had a price-tag of rupees 139 for a 134 grams pack thus making it priced at more than Rs 1000 per kilogram. Fall of Indian rupee calls for checking unnecessary spent of foreign exchange. Union government should take stringent-most steps to stop import of such items which are already available in India in much superior quality and are imported just for exhibiting richness by affording society.
