American hostage Kayla Jean Mueller’s letter written to her family in early 2014 during captivity was released by her family on Tuesday, shortly after the US confirmed ISIS claims that the aid worker was dead.
The emotional letter, handwritten by Kayla, states how much she missed her family and that how merely the thought of them “send me into a fit of tears”, ABC reported.
Talking about her life in captivity, she wrote that her captors had not harmed her and treated her with respect and kindness. She added that she was healthy and had “put on weight in fact”.
She told them that the negotiations for her release should not be the duty of her family. Kayla wrote, “This should never have become your burden”.
Kayla further wrote that she refuses to break down and still has a lot of fight left inside her. “I will not give in no matter how long it takes,” she reportedly wrote.
The 26-year-old aid worker was abducted by the Islamic State in August 2013 in northern Syria’s Aleppo and was being held hostage since then.
The terror group had last week claimed that Kayla was killed in a Jordanian air strike in Raqa, the self-proclaimed capital of the Islamic State.
The air strikes were being carried out by Jordan in response to the barbaric execution of their pilot Maaz al-Kassasbeh by the Islamic State.
The gruesome video of Kassasbeh’s execution was also released by the Islamic State which showed him locked in a cage and then being set on fire.
Despite the claims by Islamic State about Kayla’s death, the US remained skeptical as there was no evidence to support the theory.
However, the news of her death was confirmed by US President Barack Obama after a “private message” was sent to Kayla’s family by the Islamic State.
