There is never a dull moment in Indian cricket. Days after the hard-hitting Lodha committee verdict, talks of a possible ousting of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Jagmohan Dalmiya has already started doing the rounds.

According to a report in the Indian Express, the Indian cricket board could have a new president after its Annual General Meeting in September. It’s learnt that many board members are aware of the health condition of their president and they want have expressed desire to have an efficient leader at the helm.

Dalmiya, a 75-year-old veteran administrator, was found ‘incoherent and incomprehensible’ by Lodha Committee when the Supreme Court constituted panel met him in Kolkata last last pertaining to the ongoing Indian Premier League spot-fixing and betting scandal probe.

“Technically, Anurag (Thakur) is working both as president and secretary in BCCI at the moment. An institution like the BCCI needs someone who is completely fit. We all know what Dalmiya has done for Indian cricket, but looking at his health, we all feel he should step down. The BCCI will be hosting the ICC T20 World Cup next year and there are many more important decisions to be taken in the months to come,” the report quoted a BCCI source.

It also said that the board members are ready to approach Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to request Dalmiya to step down before the end of his three years’ tenure. But as per the BCCI rules, a new president can take over only if the current chief steps down and fresh elections are called for.
