Jewellery shop robbery foiled; four dacoits held

Police today claimed to have thwarted an armed heist on a jewellery shop in suburban Khar with the arrest of four robbers, who possessed firearm and sharp weapons.

The accused, identified as Bhausaheb Supekar (28), Deepak Sapte (24), Sandeep Gawde (25) and Santosh Pavane (32) were apprehended when they reached near the target in Khar yesterday afternoon, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Crime Branch Senior Inspector Mahesh Desai laid a trap near the shop when the four reached the place in a Scorpio vehicle and were found moving suspiciously in the area.

When the sleuths caught the accused, they were found in possession of a country-made revolver, a live cartridge, chopper and sickle.

The four accused have a criminal record, Desai said adding, “Criminal cases were registered against them in Ahmednagar, Pune and Panvel on charges of extortion and kidnapping.
