Making up for the lost time

Even the editorial of newspapers gave a hero status to a terrorist as if he was fighting for a national cause and that appears rather ridiculous. Media which has panel of writers whose mandate seems to be Modi bashing even if the issue is of genuine national interest, are encouraging such terrorism and militancy in the garb of freedom of press. If necessary Government should impose state of emergency in Kashmir until things settle down. There is much difference between people agitating for civic amenities and those agitating to destabilise the country. Though PM’s customary command to the forces to follow absolute restraint while dealing with the agitators is acceptable, it is doubtful if it would have the desired effect of dispersing the unruly mob. Reality calls for a tougher stand for a tough agitation. I am sure PM Modi knows that the army is a fighting force, not trained to be sitting ducks in the face of grenade attacks. Mehbooba’s whims cannot prevail at a time when security forces are under attack for whatever reasons and historic circumstances. A time has come when we need to fight this war from a position of strength. If terror can be used as a weapon of state policy by a neighbour, we need to answer with infantry level vehicles. Military strategy and development must work in tandem and with impunity. It is an opportunity to make up for the lost time.
