Pramod Muthalik doesn’t want Narendra Modi to deviate from Hindutva agenda.

Pramod-Muthalik-leadPrime Minister Narendra Modi had sent a stern message to BJP parliamentarians to focus on good governance instead of issuing controversial statements on religious conversions, Hindutva agenda which has badly hurt the image of the party. The BJP which had come to power by promising acche din has being unable to push key economic reforms which is affecting the nation’s growth. Already seven months have passed but the party doesn’t have major achievement to show. The opposition has been disrupting the functioning of the parliament demanding a statement from Modi on the conversion issue.

Modi, who had already expressed displeasure over a Union minister’s inflammatory comments, warned the MPs no one should cross the line or the “Laxman Rekha”.

This came against backdrop of repeated disruptions in Parliament over remarks by BJP MPs. Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti’s ‘haraamzada’ speech in Delhi disrupted proceedings of both houses till she apologised. Another BJP MP, Sakshi Maharaj, had called Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse a ‘patriot’, triggering another bout of protests. Sakshi Maharaj was later forced to retract his remarks and apologise.

Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik wanted Modi to withdraw his statements said, “The Human growth is being divided between dharma, karma, samsara and moksha. Between salvation and religion there is finance and development and hence Modi should not ignore the Hindutva agenda. If dharma is not protected nothing can be achieved. We condemn the statements of Modi and he should take back his words.”

“Modi should not resign but he should ask his parliamentarians to step down who are issuing provocative statements which is affecting the smooth functioning of the parliament” said Amar Saini a Kandivali resident.

Kishor Pathade, a Malad resident said, “The Modi government must refrain from wasting precious time on discussing irrelevant topics. It must work for the development of the nation and pass important legislations.”

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a right wing Hindu group, called off a plan to convert thousands of Muslims to Hinduism this Christmas, which had threatened to stir fresh religious discord, after Modi’s intervention.

“The prime minister feels that we should not deviate from our agenda of economic reforms and development,” said Yogi Adityanath, a Hindu priest-turned-lawmaker who has been running Hindu reconversion campaigns, a sensitive issue.

Ashok Patel a Goregaon resident said, “Finally, the PM has spoken up and not allowed the buffoons in his party to hijack the Development agenda that had captured the imagination and hopes of the nation. It was worrying that Modi was going the Manmohan way by not speaking up when it mattered. But now he has set that record straight.”

Modi’s rise to power has emboldened right-wing activists to openly declare India a nation of Hindus, posing a challenge to its multi-faith constitutional commitment.

Shatrughan Sinha, a BJP MP, said the PM was right in saying MPs shouldn’t cross the lakshman rekha (limits)..
