facebookAre you having trouble explaining good and bad to your teenage children? Cara Schneider of North Carolina might have a few tips for you.

Schneider, who has a cyber bullying teenage daughter Hailey, forced her to sell her iPad and pose with a poster confessing her crime as punishment. The image that Schneider posted on her Facebook page shows Hailey holding up a sign explaining that she is selling the gadget to raise money for an anti-bullying charity.

The sign reads: “I am a kind, caring, smart girl but I make poor choices with social media. As punishment, I am selling my iPad and will be donating the money to the charity Beat Bullying, in hopes of changing my behaviour as well as bringing awareness to Bullying. Because bullying is wrong…”

After Schneider posted the image on her FB page, a viewer shared the image on Reddit.com too. Since then, the image has created quite the stir on social media. While there are many questioning Schneider’s way of teaching her daughter a lesson, there are tons who have expressed full support.
“Humiliating your child to teach her not to humiliate other children? Gee, I wonder where she gets it!” one of the viewers commented. Another added: “It’s things like this that make kids hate their parents. This will only make her behave worse out of spite.”

Schneider was quick to defend her actions. She said that she had uploaded the photo for a local yard sale so that the iPad would be sold and had no intention to make it go viral. She added that she had no knowledge of when somebody shared the picture on Reddit.com.

“I’m not worried about the negative that has been said about her punishment,” Schneider wrote on her Facebook page. “I am her mother and I did what I thought was best given the circumstances. I’ve tried other punishments, and this fit the crime. I don’t regret a thing.”
