Crisis-hit Pakistan needs a powerful government to tackle the multiple problems it has been facing, former military ruler Pervez Musharraf has said while blaming “unfriendly powers” for creating chaos to set the country on a path of destruction.

“There is a need of having a powerful government because the country is currently engulfed in multiple crisis,”” Musharraf was quoted as saying by the Dawn.

The former President said that “unfriendly powers” create chaos and panic in “the ranks of a country to set it on a path of destruction”.

He accused politicians of causing harm to the country in the name of saving the Constitution.

He, however, said that “as long as Pakistan army is present no one can cause harm of any sort to the country.”

Pointing that the country is facing several issues, Musharraf, who has been trying to revive his political career, said, “I can’t say if I come into power all these issues will be resolved immediately”.

Musharraf, who has been facing several court cases, termed all the allegations levelled against him as “totally baseless”.

“Those who wish to try me under Article 6 for impeachment should first look at themselves under the same light,” the former President challenged.

The former military dictator fully supported the establishment of military courts.

“During my tenure as the army chief I armed the military with latest weapons and gears,” said Musharraf, adding that there is a dire need to strengthen the security condition of the country.

Musharraf grabbed powers by toppling Nawaz Sharif in 1999 and ruled Pakistan till 2008 when he was forced to resign.

He is facing treason case for abrogating the Constitution and has been barred to contest elections or leave the country.
