A policeman attached to Thane District Rural police headquarters was killed on the spot and another injured when the motorbike in which they were travelling was hit by an unidentified vehicle, police said.
The duo were returning from a bandobust duty at Ganeshpuri on the occasion of ‘Gurupurnima’ on Tuesday after midnight when their bike, passing through the Lodha Dham on the Bhiwandi-Nashik by pass was knocked down, the control room said.
The police naik killed in the accident has been identified as Yogesh Jadhav (35). The injured policeman Sachin Mhaske has been admitted to Jupiter hospital.
District police said that an offence under the Motor Vehicles Act and relevant sections of the IPC have been registered with Narpoli police station.
The body of the killed policeman has been sent to the hospital for postmortem.
