The Congress choice of bringing Priyanka Gandhi into active politics could be a whiff of fresh air for the party. Efficient leaders exist in the party but to the party’s dismay no one has the opportunity to lead it from the front. History and statistics show that a ‘dying party’ can resurrect itself. Congress has been suffering from a leadership crisis, with Rahul Gandhi widely seen as a failure, indifferent and incompetent. Priyanka’s looks are like Indira Gandhi and she is the most meritorious in her generation of Gandhis. Her arrival will no doubt is bound to eclipse Rahul Gandhi, and possibly give the Congress party an image makeover. Priyanka Gandhi could then take the mantle of the party and lead the battle from the front in a long-drawn political fight. Time has come for Priyanka to play active role in politics as Rahul Gandhi, has failed to make an impact. Widely seen as the Congress party’s trump card, Priyanka is the only option for Congress to make her party’s face in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections scheduled to be held next year. In politics, ultimately public perception matters.
