Sheena Bora murder mystery has become a never ending saga of Mumbai crime story. One after another revelations are changing the plot of the story with time. Till date, focus was on Indrani Mukerjea, media trials began but finally no one could reach to any conclusion. Rahul Mukerjea, son of accused Peter Mukerjea in the Sheena Bora murder case, too reached the CBI office and handed over several documents belonging to Sheena to the investigators against the accused in the case. Those are the documents with which Sheena was blackmailing Indrani Mukerjea. According to investigators, Sheena was blackmailing Indrani that if she did not give her a 3 BHK flat in the city, she would expose her by telling people that she was Indrani’s daughter, and not sister, as the latter had claimed. Meanwhile, Peter’s interrogation ended and to seek further remand, the CBI officials have called Rahul to reveal more facts in the case against him.
Constant “blackmailing” of Indrani Mukerjea by her daughter Sheena Bora and relationship with Rahul Mukerjea were among the reasons for her murder in April 2012, according to a CBI official. According to the officer, in 2004, Indrani had gifted a seven BHK flat in Delhi to Sheena. However, the flat wasn’t transferred in Sheena’s name and in 2010 Indrani and Peter sold the apartment for Rs. 1.10 crore without her knowledge. In 2008, Sheena and Rahul got into relationship, which was objected to by both Indrani as well as Peter. Indrani and Peter’s act of selling the flat had enraged Sheena who subsequently started “blackmailing” her mother. Indrani had reportedly told Peter and others known to her that Sheena was her sister. Indrani Mukerjea feared that the impending marriage between Sheena Bora and Rahul Mukerjea would reduce her favourite daughter Vidhie’s share of the property from former husband Sanjeev Khanna. Indrani has a soft corner for Vidhie. Moreover, after the engagement of Rahul and Sheena, Indrani was afraid the entire property might go to the couple, as Peter was fond of his son Rahul. Rahul and Sheena were engaged in October 2011.
On March 8, 2012, she sent an email to Sheena via her son Mikhail Bora, to confirm that they have changed the will and disinherited Sheena from their property and assets as a sign of our disapproval of her relationship with Rahul.
Fed up with Sheena’s constant blackmailing, Indrani and Peter, in 2011, made a will stating that if the couple dies, then Vidhie, Indrani’s daughter with her former husband Sanjeev Khanna, would be the owner of their entire property. Due to all these reasons, a conspiracy was hatched to get rid of Sheena for which Indrani’s driver Shyamvar Rai was also roped in and offered Rs. 2 lakh to help execute the murder plan. This is what the theory which was given by police. Accused Indrani, Rai and Khanna are currently in judicial custody, while Peter is in CBI remand. The CBI also fears that given the financial angle in the case, there could be a threat to the life of Peter and has beefed up security for him in its custody.
The Mukerjeas promoted INX Media, which operated 9X, a Hindi general entertainment channel, 9XM, a music channel, and NewsX, a news channel. Indrani was CEO, while her husband was chairman. They exited the company in 2009 and reportedly generated around Rs. 850 crore. One of the officials probing the money trail said they had collected details of several financial accounts and were about to get more details from India and abroad. A special crime branch team of the CBI is currently investigating the case. As of now, the agency has not roped in the economic offences wing that specialises in probing financial transactions and will ask for their assistance at an appropriate time, said the official.
Peter has been kept under the surveillance of the special task force at the CBI office in Nariman Point and is being provided with outside food. There are clear instructions that only the investigating officer in the case, K K Singh, will order the food and that too from a specific place. CBI officials taste the food before it is offered to Peter in custody. They said they zeroed in on Peter as he was in touch with Indrani on the day of the killing. Both, Peter and Indrani were abroad in April 2012. She returned to Mumbai on April 23, that is, a day before the killing. There were several calls between her and Peter that day and also on the day of the murder, they had long telephone conversations, and even at odd hours. That clearly indicates Peter’s involvement in the conspiracy. So far the story stalled on theories, let see where it ends.
