Ram to Nathuram Right wing politics going wrong?

Nathuram Godse AVAt a time when BJP rakes up the Ram Temple issue, the Hindu Mahasabha has already constructed a temple of Nathuram Godse, Mahatma Gandhi’s killer in Gwalior. Godse’s bust was installed and consecrated at Hindu Mahasabha’s Gwalior office. Often the construction of Ram Temple issue only gains momentum prior to assembly or general election. After the conclusion of election, BJP puts this issue on the backburner. Thus, is the party only trying to rake up the temple construction matter for gaining political mileage? Are they trying to woo Hindu voters through this issue? The party has been misleading voters about the temple matter since last 25 years. Why are they playing with the sentiments of the people? BJP’s alliance partner Shiv Sena too had criticised it for politicising the Ram temple issue. Sena had asked BJP to go ahead with the construction of the temple instead of merely politicising it. The party added that BJP can easily achieve this task as it has mandate of people. Sena also had come forward to support the temple construction issue. The party said that if temple is not built today it will never be constructed.

Chetan Rajhans AVChetan Rajhans, spokesperson of Sanatan Sanstha said, “As per Hindu religion, the temple of god is constructed. If organisation has constructed Godse’s temple, then it might have done due to sentiments. Sanatan only constructs temples of gods but some people have constructed temples of Amitabh Bachchan and Sonia Gandhi as they have high regards for them. People won’t derive any benefit from constructing such temples. When people construct god’s temple then they experience peace and happiness. The government must build Ram temple. They had already mentioned about this in their agenda. If they fail to construct the temple now then they will have to pay heavy price for it in 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Hindus had thought that Ram temple would be constructed soon. Godse was a patriotic freedom fighter.”

ramchandra avsare punaji1 bjpRamchandra Punaji Avsare, BJP MLA said, “This is a national issue and a leader like me doesn’t feel right to comment about it. The court has already said that Godse is the murderer of Mahatma Gandhi and death penalty was awarded to him. It is unjustified to construct temple of a criminal. People worship Ram on the occasion of Dussehra, but there are some others who also worship Ravana. Thus, if people are building temple of a person who has murdered Godse then it is not right.”

Sachin Bhau Ahir AVSachin Ahir, Mumbai NCP chief said, “It is unfortunate that people are constructing a temple of a person responsible for Mahatma Gandhi’s murder. People are aware about history and they also know who is responsible for Gandhiji’s murder. BJP is dividing the nation on communal lines.”

Adv Sidharth Chandrasekhar AVAdvocate Siddharth Chandrashekar, Member MRCC Legal Cell said, “BJP wants to keep the Ram temple issue alive. If the temple is constructed then their existence is threatened. Nathuram Godse’s name should be erased from history and there is no question of having a temple in his name.”

Pramod Pandit AVPramod Pandit Joshi, national spokesperson of Hindu Mahasabha activist said, “There is nothing wrong in constructing Godse’s temple. We are planning to construct Ram temple too. Some people are opposing against Godse’s temple but actually it is his memorial. We will continue to install his statues in future too. Whichever places Godse had visited we will be constructing his memorial in those areas.”

Sudhakar Deshmukh AVSudhakar Deshmukh, BJP MLA said, “Godse is not our agenda but our objective is to construct Ram temple. The honourable Supreme Court is already hearing this matter. Leaders of both Hindu and Muslim communities should come forward and resolve this matter.”

Godse was hanged in Ambala jail on November 15 in 1949 which the organisation observed as ‘balidan diwas’ (the day of sacrifice). Congress nonetheless termed the Godse’s temple construction incident as an anti-national act and demanded sedition charges to be filed against Mahasabha. The party also wanted disciplinary action to be taken against perpetrators.
