Padmavati AV 1BJP MLA Ram Kadam has threatened to disrupt the screening of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie Padmavati. Kadam who also is the head of Film Studio Setting & Allied Mazdoor Union said that filmmakers should not distort facts while making a movie. He added that the film has hurt sentiments of people as Rajput queen Padmavati and her community are shown in poor light. Kadam wanted Bhansali to first show the film to historians and if they don’t have any objections about it then they can go ahead with the movie’s release.

Kadam has asked Bhansali to delete objectionable scenes from the movie failing which his union will protest against it. On the other hand, Maharashtra government has provided security to Bhansali due to rising protest against his movie. The Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) has thanked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for the security cover to Bhansali. Thus, there is difference of opinion within the government over the release of Padmavati. MNS said that it won’t protest against Padmavati just for the sake of protesting. Amey Khopkar, president of MNS Chitrapat Sena said that there is nothing controversial about the film and people should watch if before passing comments.

Ram Kadam, BJP MLA said, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali had promised to show the movie to those people who are protesting against it but he has failed to do so. He had mentioned about this in writing. 90 per cent of the unit members of the film belong to my union and why should they work with such a director who is distorting history. If Bhansali fails to exhibit the movie then he will face stiff opposition from our union while making films in future too.”

Abhijit Panse AVAbhijit Panse, director, said, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali had urged protestors to watch the film and later decide for themselves. It is unjustified to oppose the movie without watching it. People should make informed decision. There is nothing objectionable about Padmavati and even Bhajirao Mastani was a good film. Bhansali is a good film maker and it has become a fashion to protest against movies and there is a political interference too. There is a thin line dividing politicians and films and both of them should understand it. It is unjustified to associate the film’s character with a community.”

Pradip Velankar AVPradeep Welankar, actor, said, “Did you observe how many people had protested against the film? Filmmakers should show their movies to how many persons and obtain NOC from them? Do I have a right to express my opinion? There will be many other persons who will oppose my work.”

Ravi Rana AVRavi Rana, independent MLA from Amravati
said, “If people’s sentiments are hurt due to distortion of history then it must be rectified. The film should be released after removing controversial scenes.”

Abu Azmi AVAbu Asim Azmi, Samajwadi party MLA said, “If there are objectionable scenes in the movie then the government should form a committee to look into the matter. They should delete those scenes from the film. BJP is indulging in vote bank politics ahead of Gujarat assembly polls. They want to derive political mileage from this issue.”
