Environmentalist RK Pachauri, accused of sexual assault, was admitted to a hospital on Wednesday after he claimed that he was unwell.
Pachauri had been summoned by the police on Wednesday for questioning with regard to charges of sexual assault.
He has been accused of sexual harassment by a woman employee of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). On Tuesday he stepped down as chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) after denying the accusation.
The decision was made public by the IPCC at its ongoing 3-day 41st Session from Tuesday.
The bureau of the UN’s IPCC agreed to designate Vice-Chair Ismail El Gizouli as acting chair.
