Safeguard women travellers

The rising cases of sexual abuse and violence against women in Ola/Uber share cabs are on the rise and a matter of grave concern. The incident involving sexual abuse and physical violence against Rutuja Rokade needs investigation and the guilty should be punished so that it acts as a lesson for other offenders in future. Since the concept of share cab is popular, the modestly of the fair sex comes into question if either co-sharing passengers including the driver are all male. It certainly is unsafe for women to hire share cab during late hours and needs to be avoided.

Private taxi operators should come up with a novel scheme during peak hours where they have exclusive share facilities for women with no male passengers for which they can charge a small premium. Women deserve better treatment and I am sure private cab operators, RTO and the government would work towards a mechanism that would safeguard women travellers in future!
