Do not keep children to their studies by compulsion but by play. This is the famous quote by Plato. Study and play makes student genius, this is a new quote from my side to the world. Today, I attended a sports event conducted by one of the biggest group of schools in India, in other words number one Group of Schools as C Force survey says. They have established more than 130 schools across India. The school produces players of international caliber. However, to produce international players, schools have to conduct sports events at all the levels in schools to find the genius and dedicated players.
My daughter also studies in one of this group schools. Her class teacher called me and informed about the occasion and asked me to attend the sports event for encouraging the participants. When I went there, four schools from Mira Road and Bhayander were participating in that event. Participants were found to be very enthusiastic. Everyone was warming up till their turns. After seeing them, I started recollecting my school days. Principals of two schools along with PT teachers welcomed me and requested me to take a seat on the stage from where I can watch the whole ground easily. Actually, I became hostile to their hospitality. I met some of the students there, they were very intelligent and their IQ level seems to be much higher than normal children of that age. I think technology too has played a vital role for enhancing the IQ level of today’s students.
I was interacting with Mrs. Theresa Faria, Principal of St. Xavier’s School, Shanti Park, Mira Road about the importance of participation in the sports event. She said participating in extra-curricular activities will make one fit and feel better. The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct. Play is often mentioned as if it provides a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning.
Participating in sports event develops the attitude of competition which is a vital aspect in this competitive world. I was in a hurry due to time constraints but enjoyed a lot there. It was something which helped me a lot. This event motivates me or I can say inspired to do physical exercise, which we forget in a busy world. I am recollecting an inspirational quote from George Bernard Shaw which says, “We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”
