Srikanth and Prannoy crash out of Japan Open SuperSeries

India’s Kidambi Srikanth crashed out in the quarterfinals of the Japan Open Super Series after losing to recently crowned world champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in Japan on Friday.

The 25-year-old went down 17-21, 17-21 to world no 2 and third seed Axelsen in a men’s singles quarterfinal contest that lasted for 40 minutes.

With the loss, the boy from Guntur was not able to clinch a third successive title, with back-to-back victories at Indonesia and Australia.

India’s HS Prannoy also bowed out of the SuperSeries in straight sets.

In a battle that lasted for 45 minutes, Prannoy’s opponent Shi Yugu won 15-21, 14-21 respectively.
