A senior employee of a private television channel was arrested here on Friday following a complaint of sexual harassment against him by a former woman staffer, police said.

A team of Central crime branch police officials arrested C Praveen, Chief Operating officer of Sun TV Network, from his home.

“We have booked him under Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Sexual Harassment of Women Act. He has allegedly been harassing the woman for past two years,” a senior Central crime branch official said.

The woman, who quit her job five months ago, held a senior position in the programming section of Surya TV, the Malayalam Channel of Sun Network.

“Both Praveen and the victim hail from Kerala,” the official added.

“The victim had furnished evidence including voice and data recordings of conversations,” he said, adding, the probe is on.

The channel is tight-lipped about the development.

A news editor of the group was arrested earlier this year on a similar complaint by an anchor.

Sun TV is the flagship channel of the Chennai-based network owned by Kalanithi Maran, the brother of former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran. Both brothers are being investigated in connection with money laundering allegations linked to the 2G spectrum case.
