Vadra’s ‘escape route’ will decide BJP’s credibility

Robert Vadra, the husband of Priyanka (Vadra) Gandhi and the son-in-law of Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi, is being highlighted in media recently because of his scandalous relations and land dealings with DLF group. In October 2012, Arvind Kejriwal accused Vadra of taking an interest-free loan of Rs. 65 crores and heavy bargains on land from DLF Limited in exchange for political favours. DLF clarified that it had dealt with Vadra as a private entrepreneur. The loan was Business Advance which was given as per practice of trade, to make payments for land purchased from Vadra. The company did not sell him land at a throwaway price.

Arvind Kejriwal had raised questions over his fortune. Numerous reports have questioned veracity of balance-sheets of Vadra-owned companies, which claim to have received an overdraft of Rs. 7.94 crores from Corporation Bank. Corporation Bank has now denied ever providing an overdraft facility to that amount. In response to the alleged DLF-Vadra controversy, the entire Congress came out to defend Vadra. Anyhow, this matter gets subsided and then again is aggravated. Now, it’s time for Delhi elections and no wonder that media will highlight this long pending debate. Two pages of controversial DLF-Robert Vadra deal are missing from government records. The issue of missing pages came to light when Ashok Khemka got the copy of that particular file through RTI.

Earlier, there were allegations that Congress government and Vadra’s most powerful mother-in-law, Sonia Gandhi is shielding him but now BJP’s government is in Haryana as well as in the Centre. Why government is not taking action against culprit officers? Government should immediately suspend all officers and clerical staffs who are responsible for this missing document. In Rajasthan, BJP has been in power for more than one and half years. They are in power in Haryana for more than 3 months. However, cases against Vadra in both states have not been moved further. This pretends that BJP and Congress always blame each other but never act against each other. They are fighting the election on conflicting issues but secretly uphold each other interest so that they both benefit. Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda during his election campaign had said that he had no role in the deal and was ready to quit politics if his involvement was proved in land deals between Robert Vadra and DLF.

Robert Vadra’s land dealings are allegedly spread over Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi. Big question is that, the person hushing up the documents might have been rewarded for his job. The probe should not be done with a vindictive intent but as per the legal proceedings. It was Modi and BJP who claimed that Vadra’s land deal is illegal. When they had claimed that then they must have had some concrete proof in their hands. Modi and BJP should produce these proofs to court with which they went to public domain. Two pages with noting on the previous Haryana government’s decision to constitute an official probe committee which later cleared Robert Vadra are missing.

This year in June, Khemka sought documents to ascertain how the official committee, which eventually gave a clean chit to Vadra, was constituted. It was Khemka who cancelled the mutation of a land deal in Shikhopur, Gurgaon between Vadra’s M/s Skylight Hospitality and DLF Universal Ltd. The Haryana government — it was then a Congress government under Bhupinder Singh Hooda — constituted a three-member committee on October 19, 2012 to probe the matter. It comprised three IAS officers, Krishna Mohan, K K Jalan and Rajan Gupta.

In May 2013, the Haryana State had served a chargesheet on Khemka for administrative misconduct and exceeding his jurisdiction while cancelling the mutation of the Rs. 58 crore land deal between Vadra’s company and DLF. However, Khemka’s orders were termed invalid by then state government and the deal has been on dividing line since then.

If the BJP is against Vadra then why the BJP government is not filing an FIR against Vadra in Rajasthan? Kejriwal rightly said once that both the parties are hand in gloves to loot the country. Thorough investigation is required immediately on DLF land dealings and Vadra’s connection with DLF. Real Estate and Cinema are the main businesses where black money is promoted or accumulated. There is no doubt that poor farmer’s agricultural lands are purchased at cheaper rates and sold at higher price by influential political people. Vadra is also among the culprits in doing such business. However, Vadra’s ‘escape route’ will decide BJP’s credibility. Is BJP a party with a difference or is it the same as Congress?
