Why is Smriti Irani curious about her future?

People are needlessly worrying about HRD Minister Smriti Irani who consulted an astrologer to know about her future. The 38-year-old minister was on a visit with her husband Zubin Irani to Karoi village in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, where she met Pandit Nathulal Vyas. Ms Irani should have kept her visit to the astrologer a secret because she is supposed to propagate scientific temper as envisaged in our directive principles. She seems to be very ambitious. Smriti is already a minister. Why does she want to know more about her future, is this not enough? She was unhappy with the media for interfering in her personal life.

All of us are keen to know about our destiny. Don’t you notice viewers asking questions to astrologers on television, “Meri shaadi kab hogi” or “ mujhe sarkari naukri kab lagegi”. When Pratibha Patil can become the President of India then why can’t Smriti Irani? She is smart and a quick witted lady. In the film Vidhata, a good song has been picturised on Dileep Kumar and Shammi Kapoor on the railway engine haathon ki chand lakeeron ka….main aashiq hoon tadbeeron ka…”

Reading the palm, horoscope and face are widely practiced in our country however very few people possess genuine knowledge of these aspects. It is basically intuition driven or on acquisition of certain insights by very few persons who have been doing “ sadhana” or practicing “ tantra”. Our late panditji at Lucknow had some insight for sure but his predictions based on horoscope were not very correct.

Few days back, there was an unwanted controversy involving the Central Library at Aligarh Muslim University. In the movie Mere Mehboob a good song has been picturised on Rajendra Kumar and Sadhna. “Mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam…” In this sequence, Rajendra Kumar collides with Sadhna and her books fall down. He picks up one of the books and hands it over to her. Don’t you think she must have been coming from the library? People who don’t have any work pass unwarranted comments.

I had visited the Aligarh Muslim University in the year 1964. During those days “ shervani aur churidar” was the dress code which looked very elegant.“ Dhundhta hoon tujhe har raah main. Har mehfil, thak gaye hain meri majboor tamanna ke nayan, aaj ka din meri ummed ka hai akhri din….”. Look how beautiful the song is but we needlessly complain, grow up friends and enjoy the camaraderie. “Mere mehboob main kya nahin, bholi surat awara hassi mehzabeen…”, The girls had sung the song beautifully.
