6 BMC Corporators, 3 Council members make it to Assembly

Half a dozen city Corporators and three members of the Legislative Council, including its Opposition leader, have made it to the Maharashtra Assembly in the just concluded elections.

Leader of Opposition in Council Vinod Tawde of BJP has been elected from Borivali. Mumbai BJP President Ashish Shelar, who is also a member of the Upper House, has won from Bandra West.

Former Congress Minister and MLC D P Sawant won from Nanded North.

However, former Congress Minister and MLC Rajendra Mulak’s attempt to enter the Lower House from Kamptee, Nagpur district came a cropper.

The victorious Corporators include Manisha Chaudhari (Dahisar), Ameet Satam (Andheri West), R Tamil Selvan (Sion Koliwada) and Vidya Thakur (Goregaon) – all from BJP.

Shiv Sena Corporator Ashok Patil won from Bhandup West and former Mayor Sunil Prabhu, also of the Sena, was elected from Dindoshi.

The just elected House will also have some new faces.

Prominent among them are Nitesh Rane (Kankavli) and Kunal Patil (Dhule Rural), sons of Congress leaders Narayan Rane and Rohidas Patil, respectively.

Another freshly minted legislator is BJP’s Rahul Aher, who won from Chandwad in Nashik district. He is the son of former Health Minister Daulatrao Aher, who served in the 1995- 99 Shiv Sena-BJP Government.
