Badaun-gang-rapeTwo of the five arrested suspects have confessed to the shocking gang-rape and murder of the teenage sisters in Badaun on Sunday whose bodies were found hanging from a tree in the village.

The incident created nationwide furore after two cousins, aged 14 and 15 years old, went missing from home on May 27 and their bodies were later found hanging from a mango tree.

It was confirmed that they were gang-raped before being strangulated.

The family of the victims had alleged that the police failed to act after they went to report that their daughters were missing.

The police has arrested five accused – three brothers Pappu Yadav, Awadhesh Yadav and Urvesh Yadav and constables Chhatrapal Yadav and Sarvesh Yadav – in the case so far. However, the search for the remaining two accused continued for the fourth day, police added.

BSP supremo Mayawti had visited the village and accused the ruling Samajwadi party of covering up the incident. She alleged that the family of the victim was being pressurised to withdraw the case.

Meanwhile, Badaun MP Dharmendra Yadav also visited the village today and said that the administration acted swiftly on the case and arrested the five accused within 72 hours.

“The case has now been sent to fast track court,” he added.

He added that he wanted the accused to be arrested before he paid a visit to the family.

The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a CBI inquiry into the incident.
