After Yuvraj, now Sehwag sends timely reminder to selectors with second straight ton

Discarded India opener Virender Sehwag on Monday slammed his second consecutive century playing for Delhi against Haryana in the Ranji Trophy.

Viru’s impressive knock came at a time when Delhi were struggling at 41/4 on seamer-friendly track at Lahli’s Chaudhry Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium.

With Unmukt Chand, Gautam Gambhir, Varun Sood and Mithun Manhas returning back to the pavilion cheaply, Sehwag, who came in at number 4, began the rescue act with help from Rajat Bhatia.

The 36-year-old then steered Delhi out of the woods with his 41st century in first-class cricket. Viru’s latest hundred comes on the back of his 105 against Gujarat last week, where he batted one down.

Just like Yuvraj Singh, who recently notched up three successive hundreds for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy, exclusion from India’s 30-man World Cup squad seems to have fired up the swashbuckling Sehwag.

As the Indian selectors meet on Tuesday to select the 15-member World Cup squad, two gems of Indian cricket have served a timely reminder of their prowess to the wise men.
