ews is the abbreviation of the four directions – North, East, West and South, meaning that it covers all the events happening around us. Henry Anatole Grunwald has rightly said that, “Journalism can never be silent: That is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault. It must speak, and speak immediately, while the echoes of wonder, the claims of triumph and the signs of horror are still in the air.” Afternoon Voice’s vision, presentation and message to society are crystal clear as it provides information which enhances knowledge. Afternoon Voice has always been my teacher and I must admit that I have been a sincere student. We are aware that the role of the media is vital in generating a democratic culture that extends beyond the political system and becomes engrained in the public consciousness over time. It is through the media that people share their experience, learn and become aware. AV has created awareness among the people regarding their rights and duties and we are updated just by going through its sharp and eye-catchy headlines of each and every kind of news from every nook and corner of the world. AV is playing a decisive role not only in updating the public but also in formulating a well-balanced public opining. It is to be appreciated that AV reflects public opinion thus formed through letters to the editor which is published in a separate column and has provided to express our opinion in a form of Article through Diary column.
AV has a welcome crisp feel to it. Why I say because it looks completely modern and yet retains its soul. The new design with blurbs and infoboxes will surely make a casual reader, the headline scanner, more serious. It enhances the get-up and makes readability easy. It also shows that Afternoon Voice is the only newspaper that sees itself as a service to its readers and not just a business. It has certainly lived up to its claim of always classic, always contemporary. The pictures are of great quality and I love the features. Every issue has so much to read and is a very relevant help to what is in the market right now. There is no doubt that despite all the price wars, Afternoon Voice has been able to hold its own only because of its special features. It is said that news is what someone wants to be suppressed. Everything else is advertising. The power is to set the agenda. What we print and what we don’t print matter a lot and this is true for Afternoon Voice. While in a democracy where journalism is considered the Fourth Estate, it is the duty of journalists to continue to be watchdogs and this is certainly being done by Afternoon Voice. The importance of the freedom of the press lies in the fact that for most citizens the prospect of personal familiarity with newsworthy events is unrealistic. In seeking out news, the media, therefore act for the public at large. AV has really played a role in providing information to the people about social and economic evils.
Selection of typeface, size, and positioning of illustrations make for a balanced and attractive whole. The eye-catching front page with a selection of good clours is really a pleasant reading. AV has now grown not just because it follows the core values of journalism but also because of the way it presents news.
Afternoon Voice is a newspaper dedicated to the cause of the nation and possesses a never-ending bond with the people. Its bond with Mumbaians has been further strengthened. Mark Twain has said that “In the real world, nothing happens at the right place at the right time. It is the job of journalists and historians to correct that.” The Editor and his entire team of Afternoon Voice have to be complimented for the high quality of contents and production. Please accept my congratulations on the truly outstanding quality of your publication. It gives the readers ample knowledge; it’s simple in its style and presentation, yet a stylish newspaper. Thanks to Afternoon Voice for keeping the flame of credibility and integrity in journalism intact.
