Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Monday, issued orders to make Varansai a power-cut free district.

The Chief Minister directed, AP Mishra, MD of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Ltd to ensure uninterrupted power supply in Varanasi.

Yadav made the announcement after he talked to seven-time BJP MLA from Varanasi South, Shyamdeo Roychaudhury and asked him to end his hunger strike over the issue.

The MLA began his hunger strike on May 27 demanding rostering-free status for Varanasi.

Interestingly, in the day preceding voting on May 12, Varanasi and Azamgarh was earmarked for 22 hours of power as against 18 hours they were getting earlier.

The situation remained the same in Azamgarh, from where SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav won, but changed for the worse in Varanasi after Narendra Modi’s victory.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s constituency Rae Bareli and other constituencies of SP leaders such as Etawa and Kannauj are among a handful of areas in the power deficit state that get 24-hour power supply.
