Team Anna revives itself asks people to join the organization for eliminating corruption.
Social activist Anna Hazare who had led the fight against corruption in support of a strong Lokpal Bill is once again trying to revive his organization. Anna who had taken fight to the corridors of power and challenged the government at the highest level has formed the website annasamarthak.org and is appealing people to come forward to strengthen his movement to fight corruption. The group had already spearheaded various campaigns for passing the Right To Information Act, empowerment of the gram panchayats, Lok Pal Bill and Lokayuktas. The team is now planning to begin a campaign for the passage of legislations like Right to Reject, Right to Recall for strengthening the democracy. They aim to fight the anti-corruption movement by holding peaceful demonstrations. Anna Hazare has already dreamt about a corruption free India.
When AV spoke to Vishnukant Sharma said, “Even though the UPA government had passed the Lok Pal Bill but more efforts will be needed to make it stronger. Therefore we will be continuing our campaign for the elimination of corruption from the society.”
When asked whether the current leaders too will get affiliated with any political party after joining Team Anna he replied, “We have already asked members to file an affidavit stating that they will only work for Team Anna and will not associate themselves with any political party.
“The campaign for strong Lok Pal has not been put on the backburner. We will revive the campaign and urge the government to constitute a Lokpal for fighting corruption” added Sharma.
Anna Hazare is upset with Kiran Bedi for joining the BJP without consulting him. He has refused to take phone calls from Kiran Bedi. However, last year Anna has stood by her when she expressed her wish to join BJP. Bedi and Kejriwal both are the fruits of Anna Hazare’s ‘Anti-Corruption’ movement which was also known as ‘Anna’s Andolan’. Kejriwal and Bedi are the former IAS and IPS officer respectively.
Hazare has not been in favour of going into mainstream politics. Both he and Bedi – one of the key members of Team Anna — had opposed Arvind Kejriwal’s move to launch the Aam Aadmi Party. After his initial opposition, Hazare, however, was reconciled to it. He gave Kejriwal his blessing and had even promised to campaign for him, but later on when Kejriwal’s popularity rised, Hazare publicly attacked him and tried to tarnish his image. Since she joined the BJP, Bedi has been repeatedly calling Hazare, but he refused to take her calls.
