Arvind Kejriwal vacates govt residence in Delhi, heads back to Ghaziabad

Over five months after he resigned as chief minister of Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal vacated the government flat allotted to him in Delhi and shifted back to Kaushambi in nearby Ghaziabad.

Kejriwal was under pressure to vacate C II/23, Tilak Lane residence but had got his stay extended citing his daughter’s education. He had also informed the authorities that he would vacate the house by July end and until then pay market price.

He will move to the Ghaziabad apartment – allotted in the name of his wife Sunita, a senior IRS officer – along with his two children and parents.

Reports said that the AAP will retain the Hanuman Road office in Central Delhi, which will be converted into a make shift accomodation-cum-office for Kejirwal as he is the MLA from the area.

The party central office already act as as a office-cum-residence for several AAP volunteers and leaders including senior party leaders like Gopal Rai and Sanjay Singh.

Reports had claimed that Kejriwal was keen to continue living in Delhi and had almost zeroed down on a house at Civil Lines. However he had to abandon the plan after the house got embroiled in a legal tangle.

The three-bedroom ground floor flat on Tilak Lane was was allotted to Kejirwal by the UPA government in January after he took over CM with outside support from the Congress.

Following his resignation from the chief minister’s post on February 14, Kejriwal should have vacated the house after 15 days as per the rule, beyond the grace period of 15 days market rent is charged as per rules.
