Nine people were killed and 26 others were injured when a speeding bus overturned and fell into a roadside ditch. The incident occurred when the bus driver travelling from Lakhimpur lost his control over the vehicle.
Nagaon Superintendent of Police said, “Among the nine dead, five are men and four are women.”
A total of 33 people were reportedly on the bus. The injured have been taken to the Nagaon hospital.
The bus was reportedly speeding and had hit a culvert — a pipe-like structure that allows water to flow under a road or railway line. The accident site was nearly 100 kilometres away from Guwahati.
