A Special Recovery Officer of a Rural Bank here was arrested by the ACB for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000.
Deputy Superintendent of Police ACB Thane Unit Sanjay Mohite said in an official release today that the complainant wanted the auction of his plot done earlier to be cancelled and approached the SPO of Thane District Co-op Agricuture rural bank for the same.
The officer Houshirao Gawde, 52 made a demand of Rs. 25,000 and later agreed on a sum of Rs. 10,000 for cancelling the earlier auction.
Aggrieved, the complainant approached the Thane Unit of ACB and lodged a complaint following which sleuths laid a trap and nabbed the officer accepting the bribe amount at about 1.30 pm below the foot over bridge near the Thane railway station, the release said.
An offence under sections 7, 12, 13(1),(d) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1988, has been registered against the accused with the local police station.
