Three days after the broad daylight murder of local BJP leader Om Vir Singh in Muzaffarnagar, the authorities have arrested three doctors for allegedly sheltering the main accused in the case.

One of the three doctors arrested by the police in connection with Om Vir’s murder is the owner of a private hospital where the key accused Monu was given shelter in the name of treatment.

According to Circle Officer Mahesh Mishra, the trio of doctors – Adip Kotpal, owner of the private hospital, manager Kirshan Kumar and one Ram Kumar – were arrested on Thursday in the district’s Mirapur town.

The three men have been taken into custody for sheltering the accused, in the name of treatment, without informing police.

Monu is believed to have shot Om Vir Singh dead in an attack on June 10 and was himself injured in the process and then went to the said hospital for treatment.

The 47-year-old BJP leader, also known as ‘Fauji’, was a retired army man and the vice-president of the BJP unit in Mirapur town. On the day of his killing, Om Vir Singh was out for a morning walk when two assailants fired multiple shots at him. Singh fired back at the attackers with his licensed revolver and injured one of them.

However, Singh’s attackers managed to snatch the gun from him before fleeing.

On June 11, the local police arrested Monu for the murder of Singh, and he has now been placed in judicial custody at the Medical College in Meerut.
