The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Friday, suspended party MLA from Kota, Prahlad Gunjal, for allegedly threatening district CMHO Dr. RN Yadav with dire consequences for not issuing transfer orders to the kin of a party worker.

The state leadership of the party was under immense pressure to take action against Gunjal in view of widespread criticism faced by the party over the abusive rant of its MLA. The BJP central leadership also wanted strong action against the erring MLA, reports added.

Earlier, Gunjal, MLA from Kota (North), had expressed regret for ‘threatening’ Dr. Yadav.

Trying to defend his actions, Gunjal maintained that whatever he said against Dr. Yadav was an emotional outburst. “My intention was not to hurt anyone and I have expressed regret over it,” the BJP MLA said, adding that it was part of a conspiracy against him.

On Dr. Yadav’s decision to opt for voluntary retirement, Gunjal said that there was no reason for him to do so and stressed that government officials have nothing to fear in the state.

The BJP MLA from Kota (North) suggested that the matter should be considered as closed now.

The case shot into limelight after Gunjal was caught on tape threatening Dr. Yadav with dire consequences for not issuing transfer orders to the kin of a party worker.

However, Dr. Yadav appears to be in no mood to let go of the issue and said he still fears for the safety of his family.

The CMHO alleged that government officials like him are subjected to pressure from the political class to carry out illegalities.

Rajasthan doctors’ association has also strongly reacted to the incident and has demanded Gunjal’s resignation.

Dr. Yadav had reported the matter to police following which security was provided to him at his residence and office.

Yadav said that the male nurse, whose transfer was being sought, is facing a departmental inquiry into the matter of embezzlement of 2,000 antibiotic tablets. The CMHO claimed that although he had told Gunjal about the inquiry against the nurse, the BJP leader was adamant that the transfer be given.
