Can ‘under-prepared’ Sri Lanka give India a tough fight?

Sri Lankan players were working on their fitness during a break from international cricket when the Sri Lankan cricket board gave BCCI a nod to play a hastily scheduled five-match ODI series against India.

Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews himself admitted that his team did not have an ideal preparation for the upcoming tour of India as they were concentrating on fitness and not skills during a break.

“The preparation for the series is not that great, we only had a few practice sessions especially with the weather interrupting. It is not the ideal preparation for an Indian tour but we will do our best to prepare ourselves and take it as it comes,” stated Mathews.

On top of it, Sri Lanka would be without their prime seamer Lasith Malinga in the series, who is giving it a miss due to an injury.

However, Sri Lanka still have enough fire power in their arsenal to give the hosts a tough time. Mathews-led Sri Lankan team has players like Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Nuwan Kulasekara and Thisara Perera, who are capable of changing the course of the match single-handedly.

On the other hand, India too would be without their regular skipper Mahendra Sigh Dhoni, who has been rested for the first three matches. In fact, speedster Mohammed Shami and Rohit Sharma too are injured. And Ravichandran Ashwin has not being picked for the first three matches.

Though, few big names are missing from both the teams, the ODI series starting from November 2 is going to be a cracker, when both the cricketing superpowers in sub-continent will lock horns with each other.
