The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, who was summoned by the CBI for questioning earlier in the day.

Sudip Bandyopadhyay was arrested after being quizzed by the CBI at its office in Kolkata.
He is the second TMC MP to be arrested in the Rose valley ponzi scam. On December 30, actor-turned-Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal was arrested by the CBI for his alleged involvement in the scam.

Bandyopadhyay, who was summoned twice in December last year by the CBI, skipped the meeting stating his engagement at the parliamentary session.

Tapas Pal’s daughter Sohini too appeared before the CBI for interrogation in Bhubaneswar for the second time

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “Bengal’s image has been tarnished by scams.”

“The case is being directed by the judiciary. I don’t see this as a case of political vendetta. But at the same time, the CBI is being used by the centre,” he added.

“I challenge PM, he cannot do anything, can’t suppress the voice of the people,” Mamata Banerjee said alleging political vendetta.

“If they think that after the arrest, we won’t protest, they are wrong,” said Mamata.

Mamata said that she will take the legal battle forward and will seek justice from the court.

Rose Valley scam, which was also being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate, encompasses a larger amount of money swindling as compared to the Saradha case.
