Rajan-VichareA central team will be visiting Thane after the current session of the Parliament in January next year to study the proposal for water transport projects in Thane, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, MP Rajan Vichare said.

The Thane MP said he recently held discussions with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Prakash Javdekar in this regard along with his Kalyan counterpart Srikant Shinde and Thane Municipal Commissioner Aseem Gupta.

He said the ministers had in principle agreed on the project as presented by the Thane Municipal Corporation and has assured that a team will soon carry out a study and submit its feasibility report on the proposed water transport projects.

The projects, which will be undertaken by the Maharashtra Maritime Board and the Bombay Port Trust, would be partly funded by Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNRUM), Vichare said.

Earlier this year, Gadkari ordered the tender for construction of an eight-lane road between toll plaza at Kharigaon to Kalyan junction, and also for a four-lane road between Kalyan and Murbad road.
