Chain Singh on Friday became the seventh Indian shooter to book a quota place for the 2016 Rio Olympics. He finished seventh in qualification of the 50m Rifle 3 Position event at the ISSF World Cup in Gabala, Azarbezan.

The 26-year-old scored a grand total of 1174 out of 1200 in the 3 Position event and finished seventh in the 11-man field to earn the quota spot. He fired in the sequence of 395 in Kneeling, 396 in Prone and 383 in Standing.

However, the shooter from Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) failed to impress in the finals, finishing 8th.

His Indian compatriots Jitu Rai, Apurvi Chandela, Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang, Gurpreet Singh and Prakash Nanjappa have already booked their respective quota places for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Chain had previously won a bronze medal in the same category at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. In May, he also won a gold medal at the International Shooting Competition of Hannover in May.
