Sunil-ParaskarNine months after a case of rape was filed against the deputy inspector general of police Sunil Paraskar, Mumbai police on Tuesday submitted a charge sheet against him in a suburban magistrate’s court.

“We filed a 724-page charge sheet against Paraskar in the Borivali court,” said a crime branch official.

The charge sheet contains statements of 58 witnesses and a statement of the complainant recorded before the magistrate. “It also contains the log-book of his (official) car, maintained by his driver, which shows his movements,” said the official.

The magistrate then transferred the case to the sessions court for trial. Paraskar will have to appear before the trial court on June 12.

In July last year, a first information report (FIR) was registered against him by the suburban Malwani police under sections 376(2) (rape by a police officer), 376 C (intercourse by superintendent of jail, remand home, etc) and 354(D) (stalking) of Indian Penal Code.

The complainant, a 25-year-old model, has alleged that Paraskar (57) molested and sexually assaulted her on two occasions in December 2013.

According to her, she had met Paraskar first in 2012, when he was an Additional Commissioner of Police, regarding a case.

The IPS officer then filed an anticipatory bail plea. In August, the special court for women’s cases granted Paraskar a pre-arrest bail.

In the bail order, the court said jealousy could be a possible motive behind the complaint against Paraskar. It also noted that even after the alleged offence, the complainant’s behaviour towards him was normal.
