Citizen of Maharashtra welcome new year with unique way

A unique way of welcoming ‘Year 2016’ was witnessed in some parts of Maharashtra, as some groups ran campaign against alcohol and appealed to people to drink milk instead.

Celebration of welcoming new year was overall peaceful, baring some minor incidents during last night.

Mumbai police registered 540 cases of drunken-driving. In Thane, traffic police detained a drunk rider who had burnt his bike which caused harm to other three bikes parked nearby.

Long queue was seen at the temples and other religious places to performed pooja for their wellbeing and prosperous new year. In Sangli, Buldhana and some other parts of state, people displayed poster stating ‘Daru Sodha, Dudha Piya’ (leave alocohal, drink milk.)Housing societies at various places had made arrangements to welcome New Year.

As past midnight people started wishing each other ‘Happy New year’, then they were busy in wishing their nearer and dearer happy new year through social media.

To celebrate New Year, the state government had given permission to Beer bar and Restaurant to run their business. Railways and Brihanmumbai Electric supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking had also run the special trains to enable people to reach their destination.

Meanwhile, state excise department seized thousand of litres of alcohol including spurious one, an official sources said.
