Congress MLAs injuring Maharashtra Governor is ‘indeed shameful’: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday appeared to be in tune with the decision to suspend five Congress MLAs for allegedly heckling and physically stopping Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao.

BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha said the manner in which the Congress MLAs behaved with the Governor is indeed shameful.

“The Governor is the constitutional head of the state. Every elected member and citizen is expected to maintain dignity with that position. The manner in which they manhandled him and he has been injured is highly condemnable. The action taken against the MLAs is proper,” Narasimha said.

“If more people are involved in this then the action must be taken against them to send a message to the elected leaders and legislatures that you have to maintain the dignity and decorum when it comes to dealing with the constitutional functionaries in the state,” he added.

Five Congress MLAs Rahul Bondre, Amar Kale, Ranjit Kamble, Vijay Wadettiwar and Abdul Sattar were suspended for two years from the Maharashtra Assembly earlier on Wednesday for allegedly manhandling and injuring the Governor, while they were protesting against the voice vote which was won by the Devendra Fadnavis-led BJP Government.

As the Governor made his way into the assembly last evening to make an address, the Congress and Shiv Sena MLAs blocked his way and made it difficult for him to walk up the stairs. The Governor was allegedly manhandled and injured during the ruckus.
