Congress ‘weak’ to stop Modi; Rahul ‘out of touch’ with reality: Hansraj Bhardwaj

Former Union minister Hansraj Bhardwaj has slammed his party Congress for threatening it would not let Parliament function if the central government failed to act against External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

Both Swaraj and Raje are in the line of fire for helping Lalit Modi, the ex-chief of cash-rich Indian Premier League.

“I don’t think it is proper to take such a decision. Whoever has violated any law, the legal course must, and will, follow. But stopping the House from functioning is not good parliamentary practice,” said Bhardwaj.

“Parliament is the highest forum for discussing important issues concerning the people. Even this (Modi-Swaraj-Raje) issue can be discussed on the floor of the House. If the Congress is keen, they (Congress leaders) should discuss this in Parliament, showcase their skills,” the former law minister added in an interview to the daily.

He also opined that the Congress should have refrained from interfering in the internal politics of the BJP.

Bhardwaj further questioned the Congress’ current capability to stop the Narendra Modi juggernaut.

“No, they are not in a fit state of health to control this powerful campaigner (Modi) who is backed by a powerful cadre. That is why there was a virtual walkover in 2014,” he said.

According to him, Rahul Gandhi was “out of touch” with the ground reality.

“Now there is no discussion. Where is the Congress today? You tell me who is working (to revive the party). Merely holding press conference, Jairam Ramesh briefing on very petty issues… The IPL issue is exposed, let law enforcement agencies do their job. The Congress must put forward a programme by which we can strengthen our own weak links. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, where we have no presence, how can we revive the party there? You tell me how can they win in Uttar Pradesh or Bihar? There is no plan. You tell me who is doing what to revive the party?” he asked.
