In yet another shocking incident, a police constable was mercilessly killed when he was run over by the tractor of a local sand mafia, while trying to stop alleged sand smuggling in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore district on Sunday.

According to reports, a team led by Sub-Inspector P Rajan and constable Kanagaraj, on a tip off that sand was being illegally transported, rushed to the stop it and asked the driver of the tractor to halt the vehicle.

The driver, however, sped up and in the process, crushed Kanagaraj under the wheels, due to which the constable died on the spot.

Expressing grief over the incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said the accused, Suresh, first pushed the constable Kanagaraj down and then ran the tractor over him.

She has also announced a relief of Rs. 10 lakh and ordered the police to take strict action against those responsible.
